Una comisión del proyecto de Diversificación Agrícola, financiado por la Cooperación Italiana y ejecutado por las ONG italianas Ucodep e Icei en la Región Sur-Oeste de la Republica Dominicana ha participado a un intercambio de experiencia en Colombia con la Escuela Colombiana de Café.
Los participantes al curso de Maestro Tostador y de Barismo e Arte Leche, Gabriele Regio, Darío Gil, Efrén Rodríguez, José Ovalle, Duarte Amador y José Montero duraron una semana en Bogota con el objetivo de aprender nuevas técnicas para tostar y preparar café.
El objetivo principal del viaje ha sido aprender sobre el utilizo de maquinas tostadoras que en el mes de Enero 2010 llegarán, gracias al proyecto de Diversificación Agrícola, a Republica Dominicana para ser instaladas en los almacenes de dos cooperativas de productores de café de calidad en Neyba y Río Limpio. Los participantes al curso podrán, una vez instaladas las maquinas tostadora, capacitar técnicos locales para dar sostenibilidad.
Además los cursos de Torrefacción y de Barismo y Arte Leche completan un ciclo de capacitación que inicia con el manejo de las plantaciones, el manejo post cosecha, el beneficio húmedo ecológico y el laboratorio.
En los próximos meses será elaborado un manual del cultivo de café que incluirá todas las fases de cultivo, procesamiento y preparación de bebidas. Dicho manual tendrá el objetivo de mejorar la imagen del Café Dominicano a nivel Nacional e Internacional.
